Drones for Environmental Monitoring
Increasingly, drones are being used for illegal dumping and environmental monitoring,
but in addition to optical inspections (with special cameras or thermal imaging cameras), special sensors are also used, which we might amicably refer to as “noses.”

For years, DroneBase has collaborated with the Ionian Department of theUniversity of Bari “Aldo Moro” and a research group
which has focused its activities on developing protocols and methods for the use of drones in environmental monitoring based on our sensors.
Over time, research activities have greatly expanded from thermography to environmental monitoring
via drone with constant upgrading of machines and sensors.
Currently, the research group carries out its activities using instrumentation consisting of drones such as Matrix 300 RTK and 210 RTK
to which our Sensors customized ad hoc to the specific needs of the air monitoring research group were applied.
EXAMPLES OF APPLICATIONS
AIR SAMPLING AND REAL TIME DATA STREAM
Study of protocols using UAVs and sensors to measure diffuse emissions with high accuracy
of methane from landfills, oil & gas sites and facilities in general.
Study of protocols for surveying, again by UAV and attached sensors, pollutants in airborne matrix,
some having significant odor impact and others referring to the sphere of outdoor air quality.
The research activities conducted so far have produced a large amount of data acquired in different scenarios,
From surveying at landfill sites for monitoring diffuse methane emissions,
To the survey of airborne pollutants at wastewater treatment plants.
All data are then developed and analyzed using specific algorithms and GIS-type software.
